Prices in Euro and Pounds

I have created two stores as a test to sell in £ and €.

In the UK store, for example a T Shirt shows a price of £16.99, however a Euro price shows €21.99.

Given the following it seems to me the price is not right. Its like it is being converted to £ then back to €?

  1. £16.99 converted is about €20.50
  2. German VAT is 19% UK is 20%
  3. It cannot be correct that the Euro price is worse when you are a German company charging us in Euros!

I think you need to look at how pricing is constructed for a non Euro account selling in Euros as there is no point me having a Euro store if the price is worse for those buying in Euros!

Also please find a way for embedded stores to off the option to change language!!

Hi there, the prices were created at a time when the pound was much stronger. We will be adapting the prices again next year to avoid such currency discrepancies!

Thanks for confirming, any idea when this might be?

Beginning of March!

I still do not understand why if I set prices as Euros, that it is being converted using any formula? If we are selling in Euros, surely the prices charged by Spreadshirt should start in Euros anyway?

So why is it being converted?

Germany uses Euros!

There must be a better way for a UK shop to sell in Euros!!

This is an unworkable solution, using exchange rates for something that starts in Euros and ends in Euros.

But if you have a UK store then your customers expect to see the prices in pounds, right?

Not sure I understand the issue here? You would like a .co.uk shop with €?

We are running a store for band merchandise, we have worldwide fans.

So even though we are UK based we need to offer in the local currency where possible.

As an experiment I opened a new account, choosing Ireland as the domain. This displayed a better Euro price. However not by much. It would be a very clunky way to manage inventory as we already have a US store. Adding products separately on 3 stores when there is no way to share templates ins unworkable.

Regardless the Euro pricing is strange even when using a Euro site.

For example:
A Mens Standard T Shirt with £3 design price is £16.99
A Mens Standard T Shirt with €3 design price is £21.49

A straight currency conversion from £ would be €20.20

I dont understand why the prices offered in Euros is higher especially as VAT in Germany is 19% and UK is 20%.

Can you explain why UK prices are lower?

While I would like to offer Euros, the prices are worse than someone buying in £ and converting with their card provider!

Also while I can set locale to eg DE and get German text, I would have liked to offer the option for languages in the store, but when embedding its no longer available.

I believe there should be a way to set the locale at run time if you were to add in some kind of javascript type menu inside the shop page to set the locale?

I am no web coder, but the locale option in the javascript makes me think that some kind of option would work.

We don’t use straight currency conversion. Prices are set for each country individually. And as I already said these prices were set more than two years ago. We will adapt these prices in March!

So if we were to set up a German site would the prices in Euros be better?

Do you think your customers will change the domain and start calculating the currencies?

It’s hard to give a recommendation. Just go with the domain that you think works best for you and your customers.

When it comes to the multilanguage shop in shop that are integrated in a website… we suggest you build your own language menu and embed the different lang versions of the shop on single pages on your website.

Given the way your prices are calculated in Euros doubt we will bother, we will stick to £/$.

Is there a way to change language without it going into Euros?

You mean change the language of shop in pounds to just german (but without euros)? This isn’t possible I’m afraid!

Okay, shame as the Euro prices are not so good for customers. I think you should look into the strategy for setting Euro prices.

If we use a German account domain are the prices better?

Better than what?

As I already said, we’re currently reviewing prices and these will be adapted in March.

So I just tried setting up a German account and prices show as following:

€21.49 with a €3 design price

However in the UK store its £17.99 with a £3 design price.

If a German buys from the UK store this will cost them about €20.49 when converted. I am a bit confused why the price is higher? Apart from VAT in Germany being 1% lower than the UK, I would have thought the trade prices you charge us in the UK would be higher than if we were based in Germany?

I know you might think this does not matter, but to me charging a German €1-3 more makes no sense and as we cannot have German language without changing the prices its silly.
